Air Quality during New Year’s Eve: A Biomonitoring Study with Moss
نویسندگان
چکیده
Mosses are one of the best bioindicators in assessment atmospheric aerosol pollution by heavy metals. Studies using mosses allow both short- and long-term air quality monitoring. The increasing contamination environment (including air) is causing a search for new, cheap effective methods monitoring its condition. Once such method use active biomonitoring. aim study was to assess with selected metals (Ni, Cu, Zn, Cd, Hg Pb) from smoke fireworks used during New Year’s Eve years 2019/2020 2020/2021. In studies biomonitoring moss-bag moss Pleurozium schreberi (Willd. ex Brid.) Mitt. genus used. research conducted town Prószków (5 km south direction Opole, opolskie voivodship, Poland). exposed 14 days before 31 December (from 17 30 December), on (31 1 January) 2 weeks after Year 2–15 January). Higher concentrations analysed elements were determined samples Eve. Increases demonstrated analysis Relative Accumulation Factor (RAF). results indicate that causes an increase addition, it shown COVID-19 induced restrictions 2020 resulted reduction metal content thus lower these analytes. confirmed usefulness point sources.

Industrialization releases significant amounts of various air pollutants such as F, Cd, Pb, particulate matter, etc., which can in turn have a deleterious effect on a variety of biochemical and physiological processes as well as the structural organization within the cells. Responses from plants species to air pollutants is varied with certain species being very sensitive to such pollutants, en...

Background and Objective: Air quality and distribution of trace elements in the Tehran metropolis were evaluated using transplants of the epiphytic lichen Ramalina sinensis. Materials and Methods: Thalli of R. sinensis were collected from a non-contaminated area and transplanted in the six urban sites of Tehran for six months. After the end of the exposure period, the content of twelve element...
